Q & A with bad Uncle Monkey

columnist bad uncle monkeyThis week the BKC Editor interviews our long-time columist bad Uncle Monkey, author of The Monkey Report.

Editor: Where were you born?

bad Uncle Monkey: Moose Jaw Saskatchewan

Editor: When did you start riding motorcycles?

bad Uncle Monkey: I learnt to ride motorcycles when I was 4 or 5 riding my neighbor’s Yamaha DT250. I actually learnt how to ride a motorcycle before a bicycle.

Editor: What was your first motorcycle?

bad Uncle Monkey: 1978 Honda Z50

Editor: When did you decide you wanted to wrench on motorcycles?

bad Uncle Monkey: I returned my focus to building and riding in the mid- 90’s.

Editor: What is your favourite road to travel in Canada?

bad Uncle Monkey: There is a small stretch of Hiway 10 between Melville and Yorkton that just calls to me. It is nothing special, no curves, no sweeping landscape. It just resonates with my soul.

Editor: What is your favourite Canadian Event and Why?

bad Uncle Monkey:I love all the events in Canada. They are all similar with great people. Time spent around the campfires listening to stories making new friends.

Editor: Your favourite American event and why?

bad Uncle Monkey:The granddaddy of them all Sturgis. I just love the overwhelming brotherhood of it. I was there in 2003 when it 750,000 people and for the 75th when it was 600,000. The hiways and streets are silky smooth with lots of twisty roads throughout the Black Hills. Sturgis is a riders event in that you spend the day riding before going back to the camp site.

Editor: One thing you want people to know about you....

bad Uncle Monkey: I'm a true Jack of All Trades. I can do electrical, plumbing, framing, concrete, mechanical, cooking, construction, baking, hairdressing, auto body repair and painting, mechanic, upholstery, sewing, painting, dry-walling, farmer, heavy equipment operator, roofer, eves troughs and siding, tree arborist, sheet-metal, cabinet maker, draft person, locksmith, 18 wheeler truck driver, cowboy, webmaster, musician. Basically I can design and build a car, motorcycle or house and everything in and around it.
