ATLANTICADE Announces Festival Theme Featured

atlanticade logoATLANTICADE is pleased to announce that “Look Twice – Save A Life” will be the theme for the 12th annual festival being held June 21st to 24th in Moncton, N.B.

May is motorcycle awareness month across Canada whereby drivers are reminded that motorcycles are back sharing the open road. It is important for motorists to be on the lookout for motorcyclists whose size and visibility pose a challenge in terms of being noticed, especially when they have not been a part of the road traffic over the past winter months.

Data shows motorcyclists are about 27 times more likely than car occupants to die in a motor vehicle collision and 6 times more likely to suffer serious injury. The majority of vehicle – motorcycle incidents are generally a result of the driver claiming they simply didn’t see the motorcycle.

Riders can do their part to improve the odds of being seen. Wearing high visibility clothing, applying reflective material to your motorcycle, and keeping your headlight on high beams during the day are all measures that will increase your chances of being noticed.

Whereas ATLANTICADE is one of the earlier events on the motorcycle calendar, organizer Dale Hicks felt it was a good opportunity to help get the awareness message out to the public. “We will be working with Jason Stephens of CJS Customs who has taken on the “Look Twice – Save A Life” campaign in our region. Motorcycle collisions have been on the rise in recent years and if we can bring attention to the

situation and thereby save a few lives in doing so it would be well worth it”.

ATLANTICADE is planning a local awareness ride sometime this month and another similar event as part of the festival in June. In addition, the message will be part of any advertising and social media that is being used to promote the upcoming rally.

“By raising motorists’ awareness, hopefully both drivers and bikers will be safer sharing the road in 2018” said Hicks.
