What time is it I asked? Who knows it is dark out. Get up and see………………crap it is only 4am. Wish I could sleep. Oh well let’s sit by the window and listen to the rain get harder and harder pounding on the concrete outside my window. Ahhhhhhhhhh this is nice, the sounds and smells of rain brings me back.

Ok, can’t get back to sleep and I do not want to wake Derek so Shushhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Dressing in the dark and moving my stuff in the hallway at 0500 is hard, but can be done, sorry buddy trying not to wake you.

Bike packed, then gassed let’s see what we can do. With Joe along for the ride I take him down to the Base Sign and have him sit on the bike, so I can get a pic of him here. Back to Tim’s where we had coffee and shot the breeze until the others showed up for breakfast.

Great more rain, such I life her I see, as last year it was the same way.

Once all were together we enjoyed some time with our hosts who provided up with a $100 Tim’s card for breakfast and to use along the way for coffee, very kind of them indeed and thanks.

It was also time to get a little serious as the portion of the ride from Edmonton to Cold Lake is renamed this year in the honour of our friend Gord MacKay who passed in 2015 and was the heart and soul of the Team AB ride and in particular all things Cold Lake. The padre said some kind words and we took a moment to remember and honour our friend and his memory.

Lead by the Big Yellow Bike we head up Hwy 28 to Cold Lake, and it seems we will get a break in the weather. Just a slight drizzle and then nothing, and nothing and then more nothing…………..OMG do you see the size and how dark that oncoming cloud is?!?! Then all the skies open on us and it hammers and hammers. Then there is the light show all around us followed by the sounds of thunder and not the one from ACDC either. We push on to our fuel stop only about 20 km down the road and then nothing……………. nothing at all. We quickly get fuel for some of the bikes, hot coffee and a washroom break and then off. Taking advantage of this break we head into Bonnyville for lunch with our friends at the most unique legion (Branch 183) I have ever visited.

Reserved street parking, the D/Mayor, the executive of the legion, the Fire Chief and some locals we enjoyed what I never knew existed Borscht Soup (Beet soup???) well everyone went for that like nothing I have ever seen. They raved about it and went back for seconds and thirds……………. well not the nice lady who made it from scratch was overjoyed.

We made our presentation and made deals for next year to be bigger and better (Hear that Dale T), we are making headway for future years. We agreed with a handshake and were off with our young MP escorts on his bike and into the village of Cold Lake, 42 km away and our Police Escort to the rooms where we get to stay at the Maple Flag Inn, where we will be staying for the next two nights and a hell of a deal thanks to Team Cold Lake. Nothing like staying on an Air Base in Officers rooms (Private) for two days.

Our friend Craig T from Kamloops had planned for the Kamloops riders to meet up with 419 Sqn DCO for a visit. 419 Sqn is the host Sqn for the city of Kamloops and this was something special. I was invited along and so was Joe. Off we go to get the tour and young Spencer our youngest rider ever got to play in the multi-million-dollar simulator and flew quite well. He loved it and his smile will not leave for a long time I bet.

The CO permitted me to get a pic of he, I and Joe together for Sarah and said what are doing in his honour is nothing short of amazing. Sarah this is one of many gifts to you.
We were hosted by the MPs for a Pot Luck dinner and greetings and we then left to relax. Tomorrow being a rest day and an event day. A Poker Run and Golf Tournament is scheduled in the rain and we are welcome to attend or just chill. Their wash bay is ours to us and it was at this time I got to share a surprise which was greeted with applause. It seems that BP (Sandra) will be returning to the National ride and will be back here later this evening…………… ?

Our group went to the Mess where Spencer got his internet and the guys and girls got to chill, eat pizza and popcorn and at 7:30 I met with Sandra in town and brought her back into the fold.

The Military Police National Motorcycle Relay (MPNMR) was founded in 2009 as a way to build comraderie between Military Police motorcycle enthusiasts. It has grown to become a great supporter of charities such as the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC).

The Relay is open to anyone (military or civilian) who wishes to join us for a day, a province or the entire National Relay.

The Relay is organized by a National Committee and Regional Committees in each province. Please take a few moments to peruse our website.

Tune in each week for event updates!
