The Golden Hour

columnist bad uncle monkeyThat special time of day when the sun rides as low in the saddle as we do. The Golden Hour just before sunset, just before the sun get so low that it blinds you to oncoming traffic. The air is crisp but not yet cold. The darkness starting to creep across the countryside mixing in with the shadows. The wind as calm in the evening air as our soul is. We weave in and out of traffic content with the ride, not the speed. Its been a good day riding. Miles and smiles. A few more miles until we tie a bow on the day - maybe with the ribbon from a pretty girl’s hair. Life is full and complete, unhindered by the outside world. We live within, within nature, within life.

Mental Health

columnist bad uncle monkeySo how are you feeling? I mean beside the usual aches and pains that your body seems to like to collect over the years.

Mental health is something that we don't seem to talk about. We don't mind talking about our trick knee that can predict a rain storm miles before Mother Nature does but when it comes to how we are feeling and thinking we shut down.

When We Ride

R.A.G.E.Talk with a group of riders and you’ll soon realize that the reasons we choose to ride a motorcycle are very different for each and every one of us.  The riding community in Saskatchewan is made up of a very diverse and broad group of people.  Many of us ride alone or with a few friends, never joining or belonging to a club, organization or group.  We simply plate our motorcycles and ride every chance we get.

Freedom

columnist bad uncle monkeyIt is a hard concept to really, truly wrap your mind around. We here in the west are quick to pound our chest and proclaim that we are the proud and free. The sad thing is freedom is a mirage lingering on the horizon. For many of us we work an honest day work, ride our bikes in the mean time, we complain about politics to our friends but we never really do anything about it other than some grumbles. We could be plopped down in any part of the world and our lives would change very little. That is not freedom - only the allusion of freedom.

The Monkey Report May 1, 2014

columnist bad uncle monkey"I can't sell you that." I dismissed the salesman’s statement as fast as he had said it. My trip to the dealership was simply to price out some parts so I could budget them for the King build. As we talked it was becoming clear what he meant by he couldn't sell me the parts. You would think that it would be a supply and demand thing that Harley simply didn't produce enough of the parts and now there was a shortage somewhere in the pipe line. Maybe the part was simply obsolete or just not available just yet as a replacement part but as we talked looking at the schematics on the screen there was a part number, price and even listed the part being in stock in his own inventory.
