Due to restrictions brought in by Health Canada surrounding COVID-19 and making sure we are keeping our friends
and families safe, we have chosen to adjust the date of the 29th Annual Calgary Motorcycle Awareness Ride to Sunday, August 23rd, 2020.

On August 23rd, the 29th Annual Calgary Motorcycle Awareness Ride will be taking place. Watch for over 500+ charity loving motorcyclists who will ride from the McMahon Stadium to the Magic of Christmas’ warehouse for the rally events. All makes, models, riders, and non-riders are welcome!

The Calgary Motorcycle Awareness Ride was started in 1991, making it one of the longest continuously running yearly rides in Canada. Mick Cawthorn, owner of Kane’s Harley-Davidson®, along with former Calgary Mayor Al Duerr, Bob Kane Sr., Walt Healy, ALBI Homes, CFCN, the Calgary Stampeders, and many more dedicated volunteers participated in the inaugural
event and contributed for numerous years. Mr. Duerr’s inclusion even prompted some to call it “The Mayor’s Ride”.
We ride for the following reasons:

• To raise public awareness about the safety of all motorcyclists on the roadway
• To bring the motorcycling community together
• To raise funds in support of the Magic of Christmas
• Historically making dreams come true through the work of local charities
• To celebrate the lives and contributions of four motorcycling pioneers in Calgary. All four were dedicated
ambassadors of safety and awareness, who worked tirelessly to promote motorcycling as a safe and socially
acceptable form of recreation.

Bob Kane, Walt Healy, Roger Hyde and Harris Dvorkin

People are in a hurry these days, and often fail to comply with the common sense rules of the road. Slow down, use signals, check blind spots, put the mobile devices away, and above all else – watch out for motorcyclists! “C” Us!

This year’s ride will muster in the south end of the west parking lot of McMahon Stadium at 10 a.m. with kick stands up at 12 noon. Further details will be listed on the Awareness Ride website (yycawarenessride.com). From this starting point the riders will take a predetermined escorted ride to the Magic of Christmas’ warehouse where there will be silent and live auctions, live entertainment, food and beverages.

All proceeds from this year’s ride will be benefitting the Magic of Christmas. The Magic of Christmas is a 100% volunteer, non-denominational charity based in the city of Calgary. Every Christmas Eve, they load up Calgary Transit buses, magically transformed into “reindeer buses,” with hundreds of gifts and volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves. Then, they do what they do best—deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.

The Awareness Ride is honoured to be working in conjunction with the Motorcycle Toy Run for the third year. Two of Calgary’s most popular charity rides are collaborating to lend a higher level of support to the phenomenal work being done by the Magic of Christmas. With the Awareness Ride taking place in May, the start of the riding season, and the Toy Run set for a September date, near the end of the normal riding season, the Magic of Christmas will hopefully receive enough support to be able to help even more deserving families.

Over the course of its 28 years, the Awareness Ride has raised over $1,000,000 for the Party Program, URSA, Wood’s Homes and the Magic of Christmas.
