Bighorn Consultation Ends Soon: Help us defend the backcountry

bighorn Bighorn Country Proposal - Public Consultation ends February 15, 2019

The public consultation period for the Bighorn Country Proposal closes February 15, 2019

Now that the Public Information Sessions have wrapped up, we want to ensure those compiling the information don't miss a thing. Help us reinforce the position of thousands of Albertans opposed to the Bighorn Country Proposal.

Our efforts today will help define the future of the Bighorn Region.
A returning government or a new UCP government will need to consider and rely on the outcomes of our collective actions.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SAVE THE BIGHORN:
  1. Do the survey
  2. Send an on-line letter
  3. Submit your comments and questions

AND...tell your family and friends to do the same.
Be sure to share this information with anyone who rides an OHV.

We make it easy for you...see below to get started.

Through the Bighorn Country Proposal, the Alberta Government will convert the Bighorn Public Lands into a series of new Provincial Parks and a massive new Public Land Use Zone.

This will result in a further reduction of OHV use and open camping that first started in the Castle, made its way through Porcupine Hills and Livingstone and is now expected to cover the eastern slopes up to Drayton Valley.

You can review the proposal here.

Treat this survey as a vote. If you do not agree with the proposed land use changes that will jeopardize your enjoyment of the backcountry, stand up for what you believe is right.

AOHVA created a Survey Guide for those opposed to changes in public land use that will restrict access to the Bighorn. It's easy to follow along...see the link below.

  • We did this because survey results are often interpreted in a way that the respondent never intended – usually to make it seem as though people agree with the position of those seeking to justify a pre-determined outcome.
  • (NOTE: Other organizations like CPAWS have made survey guides available to those in support of the proposal.)

AOHVA Bighorn Country Survey Guide

On-line Survey: Bighorn Country Proposal (Alberta Environment and Parks)

While people may be tired of these surveys, THIS IS the most important one to date. Unlike the surveys for the Castle Parks and Livingstone/Porcupine Hills PLUZ (that asked for input AFTER the plans were determined,) THIS IS NOT DONE YET!

Survey closes February 15, 2019.
