bol MBL103 400xSee Renee's Milwaukee Book Review:

This week we are going to talk about the other end of your body that needs protecting, your feet.

Now we have all seen Mr. Cool who wears flip flops on his bike.

I can’t even fathom how that would feel shifting, yikes!

Motorcycle boots are designed with a purpose in mind.

To Protect Your Feet!

According to the stats from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the US, 30% of all motorcycle related injuries happen to the legs and feet.

So having flip flops on is exactly the kind of footwear you want to have on - NOT!

Whether they are made of Kevlar or leather, riding boots are meant to take the beating instead of you and your feet in the event that something happens.

A good boot will help protect your feet and ankles in a motorcycle crash. Flip flops, sneakers, street shoes all tend to come off during a crash.

There are many brands of boots, some with steel toes, some made of kevlar. Some are made for off road racing and others for road racing.

Riding gear has evolved a lot in the last 40 years. Boots can be very functional and look great.

You want a boot that is non skid and oil resistant, because the oil that builds up on the road becomes uber slippery in wet conditions and will be your downfall, and I do mean that literally.

You also want double or triple stitching on the seams for strength.

I wear the Milwaukee Accelerator boot.

They are 7” high and cover the vulnerable ankle bone.

These boots offer side zippers and lace up, making them very easy to make them fit well.

They have a washable insole and they are water resistant.

The way the boot is constructed there is actually and arch, not a lot of riding boots have one.

I find that these boots are much better for walking in than many riding boots I have tried over the years.

I wear orthotics and because of the laces, there is room for them, making the boot even more comfortable.

Non steel toed boots like these will only protect your feet so much, however they offer a happy medium between protection and comfort.

Comfort is important, if you are in discomfort or pain, your mind is not fully on riding.

They do the protection job quite admirably and they are reasonably comfortable.

I use Leather Better on my boots, they last better when they are treated well and they don’t tend to soak up too much water if I am riding in the rain.

If you are looking for a good boot, may I recommend you check out Milwaukee Boots?

They have a great selection of styles and right now Milwaukee Boots are on sale at Boutique of Leathers/Open Road Motorcycle Gear Locations across western Canada and online!

The boots tend to fit well, I am a ladies 7.5 and they fit fine, my toes aren’t crammed into the end of the boot, there is no chaffing and the break in time was minimal.

You might think that wearing flip flops, street shoes or running shoes make you look cool, but in the event of a motorcycle crash, you will wish you had worn something more sensible.

Just Google search: foot injury motorcycle crash - be forewarned the images you see may cause your lunch to violently leave you.

And just one more thing, please consider dressing for the slide, not the ride.
