Be a Buddy Not a Bully - Aimee's Ride Featured

Aimees RideRecently our organization had the pleasure of meeting Aimee and her family.

Aimee is a 15 year old girl that was bullied and in need of some help. Please join us in our upcoming Poker Ride on Family Day June 15th, 2019. All Proceeds from the ride will go to Unit 56 Adolescent and Adult Mental Health- South Health Campus.

On Tuesday May 14th a group of riders from Bikers are Buddies, Bullying Enns (from Edmonton) and Against All Abuse took part in a ride for Aimee. At 2:30PM we gathered at a Denny’s parking lot and got ready to ride. With smiles on our faces and fuel in our tanks we rode off in formation towards Aimee’s school.

Once we arrived at the school we lined up single file across the street and waited for the end of day bell to ring. When it did everyone came out and saw us waiting. I can't tell you how breathtaking it was to be part of that. Aimee came over and talked to us, we told her we were there for her and let her know it was OK to ask for help and to talk with someone, Aimee showed a lot of courage and we could not be more proud of her. Her mom and sisters came along as well and as her mom watched it un-fold she was in tears.

Kids and parents were coming up to us and asking if they could take pictures with us (I was in about 5 selfies) then they wanted to know what we were all about and why we were there. We got to share Aimee's story, and members talked about where we came from and answered all the questions that were asked of us.

When we were all done Aimee jumped in with us (in the Red Slingshot) and we took her home. Once we got there a few families came out to see what all of these bikers and their bikes were doing on their block. And when they saw it was us they too wanted pictures and to talk with us. One little boy I think his name was Evan came up and told Bryan (aka BAM BAM) and myself how he was bullied and as he told us his mom started to tell us how great it was that we do what we do, then she started to cry and get emotional and thanked us. All of the kids got stickers and wrist bands and hats. One boy even got to start one of the bikes and rev the engine (He loved that).

Aimees Ride

It is all about awareness. We can all do our part, you do not have to be in a group of bikers all wearing vests on motorcycles to spread that message (Although I won't lie it is pretty cool). Stand up to bullying. Speak out about bullying, and if you have been or were bullied you need to know it is OK to talk to someone. A friend, a parent, a teacher, and yes even one of us at Bikers Are Buddies
