Be a Buddy not a Bully - Junk Fest Featured

bdb junk festRecently Bikers Are Buddies had the pleasure of participating in the 2nd annual “Junk Fest” and then on Sept 11th,

Bikers Are Buddies made a stop at South Health Campus Hospital to drop off donations for the patients in the Addictions and Mental Health Unit.

What is “Junk Fest” you ask? Well simply put is it a music festival put on at a local junk yard, it doesn’t get better than that does it? PK Sound donates the equipment and Trenchfinger hosts the show. Bands donate their expertise and time with all proceeds going to Bikers Are Buddies to help us do what we do best, support the anti-bullying movement. This year 8 Local bands came out and performed for everyone in attendance, there was plenty of food, music, and fun to be had by all.

In June we had our “Bikers Are Buddies Family Day Poker Run”. We decided to donate all money raised to the addiction and Mental Health Unit at SHC. Mental health is such an epidemic that unfortunately still carries the stigma that if you admit you have a problem it shows weakness, which is absolutely not true. The donations raised went towards purchasing items for the patients in the unit. Some patients have no family support, whether it be because the patient doesn’t want to tell them or the family and friend support has given up on them. With that a lot of patients live on the streets and come in with nothing. Some of the items we purchased were sweaters, pants, socks, underwear, toiletries, games, arts and crafts, popcorn, chocolate, radios. AHS does not supply all these items. Sometimes being on the unit can be boring and lonely. Some patients cannot leave the unit so that’s why we try to provide items like games and so on to try and help their days go faster.

With School back in full swing watch for more “Rides” to be happening, meeting some really great kids who need our help and as always some events to raise money to keep doing what we do. Please join us if you see an event or a ride happening that you can make it out too, the more support we have the more we can do.
