Motopanda - Bike ride in India Featured

Motopanda lehNamaste!

Motopanda khardunglaWell, did you know the birthplace of this commonly used salutation ‘Namaste’ is India?

The land of yoga, a lot of cultural diversity and the birth place of Ayurveda. The beautiful brown tanned skin colour, the second largest population in the world or if not anything it’s the spicy food that stikes your mind when I call out the name India. Right?

Nonetheless, allow us to take you for a ride through this mystic country of infinite suprises.

India is home to 30 plus UNESCO world heritage sites and pristine vegetation. The canyons, beaches, mountains, you name it and we got you covered. But have you ever thought of what one could experience on a road trip to India.

With the number of people travelling the length and breadth of the country increasing exponentially, touring has really picked up in India like rapid fire through the last decade.

We have the highest motorable road in the land of high passes ‘Ladhak’, which attracts riders from all over the world. For others, who are here to enjoy the sun and sand can zip on the mopeds in Goa. That’s the beauty in diversity the country offers.

The experience of riding in India can be anything but warming for sure. Be rest assured if you are kitted up with your riding gear you are surely going to grab eye balls all the way. People whizzing past in cars on the national highways will wave at you, wish you luck for your journey ahead.

If you are having a water break or a break down, people irrespective of the state you are riding through, will surely be super excited to have a conversation. Most importantly they will go out of the way to help you.

I recall riding through a village in Madhya Pradesh and having a flat tyre in the middle of the night. There was this guy having a small tyre repair shop outside a local highway side restaurant (Funny how we call it as a “dhabba”, Indian highway dhabbhas are a must to try out, if you are riding in India). So this guy, although he didn’t have the tube for my tyre was so generous, he offered us to stay there till we find a way.

We stayed up all night talking to this simple tyre repairer. To be very honest, I feel it is these conversations that tell you a lot about the place.

Indian food is an integral part of the Indian culture. You get to experience a gastronomic adventure with such diversity in cultures and traditions followed in the country. Be it the taste, the ingredients or the cooking style, everything changes with the geography, with each state you end up with something new.

Even the restaurant staff will be more than enthusiastic about you journey, about knowing what all places you are going to visit and then if you are travelling a long route one would always startle at the fact on “Oh all that far with a bike?”

You can find vineyards and spicy food in Maharashtra, to a sweeter cuisine in Gujarat, move ahead and the earthy flavours of Rajasthan kick in. Move north up and you end up at a food paradise of the rich Mughlai food, the biryanis and kababs to name a few. If you choose to visit Ladhak which sees lot of rider folks because of the world’s highest motorable road, you are bound to have some Tibetan cuisine. Move south and it’s a traditional affair with the tea and coffee plantations and so many varieties of rice preparations. It is definitely a beautiful experience riding through different parts of country and enjoying these delicacies.

India is everything that is there on the internet, but ride through the Indian streets and you are sure to experience the hospitality, the warmth, the helping folks, the food, the scenic roads, all this is to be experienced in the flesh.

Riding here is one way of finding gratitude and connecting with people. people who love what they do, people who love exploring, people who want to experience and see something new, if that’s what you want to do, you should definitely have a ride or a road trip in India, I am sure it will surprise you, it still does to me on every ride, small or long, whichever state, whichever highway, you are definitely going to enjoy it.

To sum it up, I guess Mark Twain rightly quoted, “India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most artistic materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!"

Also, remember to always ride safe, use proper riding gears, and put a seat belt. Godspeed!!
